At the San Pedro Gran Prix on June 22nd, Lezyne’s director of marketing Dillon Clapp finished 9th in the SoCal Criterium Championships.  Clapp narrowly avoided a large crash near the end of the race, and held his sprint through the finish line.
“Someone probably crossed wheels or slid out, it was a super fast turn downhill, and a bunch of guys went down.  I held my inside line, and took it all the way to the finish,” said Clapp.  Clapp has been racing for over 11 years, and has been focusing himself on road racing for the last 4 years.
“I’m more than satisfied!” said Clapp.

The previous day, Clapp finished 23rd at La Mirada, a southern California circuit race on a 2 mile course.  Also at La Mirada, members of the Lezyne-sponsored Jittery Joe’s team were doing quite well.
“With a quarter mile power climb in 103 degree temperature, Cody Stevenson won after a vicious attack countering a breakaway,” said Clapp.
Clapp is a key part of the Lezyne team, and everyone at Lezyne congratulates him on a race well-done.

The Jittery Joes team had a standout performance at the recent Tour de Beauce in Quebec, Canada.
Evan Elken won the Saint-Georges Criterium in a stunning show of wits.  With race rules differing between the USA and in the rest of the world, Elken followed the team director’s advice, counted race laps on his own, and sprinted out from the lead breakaway at the perfect moment, winning the crit.  At the end of the overall tour, Elken finished the general classification in the 47th position.

As the Tour de Beauce continued on to the final day, the Circuit Urbain Ville de Quebec, Elken’s Jittery Joe’s teammate Matt Shriver finished third.  The 28 year-old Coloradan climber rode both strong and smart, and finished the general classification of the race in 30th.

Jittery Joe’s team rider Jonathan Cantwell won the Barry Wolf Memorial GP, with teammate Cody Stevenson also breaking the top-ten, finishing 8th.  The Barry Wolfe GP is a well-known criterium, with riders from all over the US competing for over $4,000 in prize money in the Southern California sun.  The .7 mile course had high-speeds and tight corners, and rewarded riders who not only rode fast, but also rode smart.
“I’m really stoked Jonathan won.  It was a good race, and there were a lot of top racers in the field,” said Cantwell’s teammate, Neil Shirley. “I’m stoked I didn’t crash, there were a lot of people out there,” added Shirley, who finished 39th in the race after helping to guide Cantwell to the win.
Cantwell, a 26 year-old Australian sprinter, has been having a very successful season, and everyone at Lezyne wishes Cantwell the best of luck with his continued success.

Lezyne's recently-hired mechanical engineer, Dan Baggs, proved that he’s worth his keep as he won the Semi-Pro DH at the Santa Ynez Classic at the Firestone ranch on Sunday, May 18th.
“It was a lot of fun, I thoroughly enjoyed myself,” remarked Baggs, discussing the weekend.
The race is a part of USA Cycling’s National Mountain Bike Series, attracting riders from around the country.  Yet while the competition was fierce, the only thing that was hotter was the California sun.
“The weather was super hot, I was sweating just sitting in the shade,” said Baggs.
With a successful Sunday, and a busy work week designing Lezyne products for Year 2, Baggs’ productivity just never slows.

Congratulations to Dan from everyone here at Lezyne!

Dan with Truck

Lezyne is proud to announce yet another new co-worker: Dan Baggs.  Baggs recently graduated from CalPoly State University with a degree in mechanical engineering, and has extensive experience in fabrication, three-dimensional modeling, and plastics.  Baggs races semi-pro downhill, and also has an extensive background in off-road race truck fabrication.
“We’re proud that we’re bringing Dan in. He has a strong history in the bike world in both riding and manufacturing,” said Lezyne CEO Micki Kozuschek.
“He’s a mechanical engineer; he’s got a great background, he’s got a great education, and he’s very detail oriented,” added Kozuschek.
Baggs is excited to be working at Lezyne, combining both his education and his manufacturing experience in an industry he knows well.
“I’m excited to enter the engineering world as a big part of a fresh bicycle company,” said Baggs.  “It’s a great opportunity with a great company.”
Baggs has been racing mountain bikes competitively for eight years, is a native to the California Central Coast, and has been immersed in cycling culture nearly his entire life.

Within the next couple months, look for the upcoming Sabre tire lever, the first of many items designed by Baggs.

The Sea Otter Classic, one of the biggest annual cycling events in the world, showcased a prototype of the new Lezyne floor pump.  The high-end, polished aluminum pump caught the eye of many an expo attendee.
“Everybody thought it looked really cool,” said Lezyne Graphic Designer Connor Bondlow.  “It was our first Sea Otter with product, and we got some great feedback from the industry and just people in general.”
Senior marketing director Dillon Clapp was also pleased with the pump’s reception.
“They loved it. It’s a very attractive pump, especially for still being in prototype stages.  People really liked the machined aluminum construction, as well as the modern and clean design features.”
With a release goal of fall 2008, the still un-named pump is sure to be hit among cyclists world wide.

March 2008-

Lezyne USA visits Taiwan offices to bolster the international standing and communication of the accessory company.  With offices in both North America and Asia, Lezyne relies heavily on its international frontier.
Speaking about the trip’s main goal, CEO Micki Kozuschek explained the itinerary “was really to talk about synchronizing the different departments, especially as far as year 2 is concerned.”
Much like Lezyne’s accessories, organization and integration are keystones of the company.  Combining this philosophy into all aspects of the component experience is a goal for year 2.
“In year 2 we want to offer a complete point of purchase stand to show our merchandise. We talked a lot about integration while we were in Taiwan,” said Kozuschek.
Moving total organization into the showroom is important for Lezyne, but Kozuschek also announced another company goal, saying “We’re going to have a very complete ERP system, including an on-line ordering system, in the close future.”

March 2008-

Lezyne website updated to better reflect the outstanding component line.  Congruent with Lezyne’s driving philosophy, the new site is simple yet elegant and practical, so you can find the information you need in seconds.

March 2008-

Lezyne continues to build on its already strong international presence after a great showing at the Taipei International Cycle Show. In the past year, Lezyne has been growing quickly. Yet the young brand is only beginning to accomplish its goals, and the Taipei show is a strong precursor of what will come.

Booth

“This is the big international show and we’re still in the process of setting up our presence,” said CEO Micki Kozuschek.

Booth

“We have a lot of new contacts to follow as we complete our world wide distribution goal,” added Kozuschek. “We’re an international brand, not just a US brand.”
The first of the annual bicycle shows, Taipei often previews what the industry has in store for the following market year. For Lezyne, this means to continue in the direction it has pursued over the past year.
“For year 2, we’re panning to increase our product line. More pumps, floor pumps, bags, and generally improving on what we’ve already got,” said Kozuschek.
As the young brand continues to grow, its product line will see further improvements. If year 1 for the company is any predictor, year 2 will be one to watch.
